This is the second layer of the hippocampus, a structure within the brain responsible for spatial-temporal coding. Here, you're able to look at the specific braincells, called neurons, responsible for the incredibly complex behavior each of us exhibit daily. 

This image was taken with a microscope that I designed and built at the California Nano-Systems Institute in Los Angeles, California. 

These are the thoracic vertebrae of male African Lion. The thoracic vertebrae differ from the cervical in that they have developed specialized foaminia through which blood vessels may pass. 

After two days of sleeping in my friend's two door coupe waiting for wilderness permits, we were able to climb the highest peak in the contiguous United States. This moment was profoundly beautiful, and while I am undoubtedly grateful for it, I also am also fully understanding of the sacrifice it demands. 

Mt. San Jacinto holds incredible value to me, in that I remember climbing it with my grandfather as a kid. We stopped at an IHOP beforehand, and I remember he got stuffed french toast. 

I never was a fan of that. 

More importantly, was the experience. We fly-fished in streams together with sticks and some old hooks. He taught me how to tie specific knots for affixing flies, and the proper test line for what you're expecting to catch. I love my grandfather.
